The commonwealth is in a transportation funding crisis and it affects all citizens, including me.

From the loss of time with our families due to congestion to increased car repair bills as a result of our deteriorating road conditions and a lack of multi-modal alternatives, Virginia’s transportation infrastructure is crumbling around us and we are paying the price.

Without the successful implementation of a transportation funding solution Virginia has put itself further behind when it comes to providing residents, businesses and visitors with a reliable and accommodating transportation system.

With congestion concerns reaching an all time high in areas such as Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads we are strangling two of the commonwealth’s biggest economic engines and as a result are jeopardizing our status as one of the top states for business. At the same time our rural roads continue to get worse as they go under funded.

Virginia’s last significant increase in transportation funding took place in 1986, and as a result, the commonwealth has to fund its increasingly outdated transportation system at funding levels that were established more than 20 years ago. Due to inflation the "buying power" of these dollars has been reduced by more than 50 percent.

This is an issue that affects the quality of life of all Virginians. You must make transportation funding a top priority for the commonwealth and if elected, it is critical that you work with other elected officials to reach a long-term, dedicated, multi-modal, statewide transportation funding solution.
